Meditation Series - Part 15 - Techniques For Practise Of Common Types Of Meditation - Mandala22/4/2014 A mandala is most commonly a circle. As artwork they are beautiful, but are so much more than this. It can be translated roughly as a 'circle' and in Buddhist tradition represents the universe. Meditating with mandalas allows us to delve into our own 'universe' to gain insight and understanding within ourselves.

Open Monitoring Meditation is the non-reactive monitoring from one moment to the next of experiences such as thoughts, emotions and physical sensations. In the last blog Meditation Series - Part 13 - Techniques For Practise Of Common Types Of Meditation - Mudras, we looked at focusing the meditation on the circulating electromagnetic energy around the body. Open Monitoring Meditation is quiet different. Meditation Series - Part 13 - Techniques For Practise Of Common Types Of Meditation - Mudras14/4/2014 Mudras, are more commonly known as hand gestures, but can performed all over the body. They create a link that circulates energy within the body to restore energetic balance and harmony. In the last blog, Meditation Series - Part 12 - Techniques For Practise Of Common Types Of Meditation - Postures, we looked at how postures can assist with the flow of energy around the body. Mudras perform a similar task. Meditation Series - Part 12 - Techniques For Practise Of Common Types Of Meditation - Postures13/4/2014 Using postures in meditating is a wonderful way to incorporate the whole - mind, body and spirit, into meditation. My last blog focused on Breathing Control - Meditation Series - Part 11 - Techniques For Practise Of Common Types Of Meditation - Breathing Control. Postures builds on this by using the whole body as a meditation tool, and not just the breath. Both Movement meditation and Breath Control meditation, can function as a support meditation technique to assist one to have greater success while practising other meditation techniques. Movement Meditation can be applied in limitless ways, and with a little creativity we can apply most other types of meditation as Movement Meditation such as practising Mindfulness Mediation when taking a walk. The most well known type of Movement Meditation is Tai Chi where chi is moved through the body and thoughts are only focused on the movement of the body. Getting lost in the music while dancing at a night club would be the most common way that people reach a meditative state without even realising it! Meditation Series - Part 7 - Techniques For Practise Of Common Types Of Meditation - Prayer23/6/2013 Prayer can be in the form of actually vocalising externally, or simply thinking the dialogue silently. Prayer is the act of pro-actively communicating or expressing thoughts to god, in whichever way the individual understands god to be. Prayer, which is a technique of the mind, is quiet different from Contemplative Meditation which is a technique of feeling, and was discussed in the previous blog Meditation Series - Part 6 - Techniques For Practise Of Common Types Of Meditation - Contemplative Meditation. What they have in common, is that their focus is on communicating with god. Meditation Series - Part 8 - Techniques For Practise Of Common Types Of Meditation - Prayer Beads23/6/2013 Prayer Beads are used in a variety of religions practises such as;
They are a wonderful addition to prayer as they provide a focal point in which to pray as discussed in my previous blog Meditation Series - Part 7 - Techniques For Practise Of Common Types Of Meditation - Prayer. Contemplative Meditation, or Contemplative Prayer, is a type of meditation where the individual seeks to have communication with god, in whichever way they understand god to be. In the previous blogs, Meditation Series - Part 5 - Techniques For Practise Of Common Types Of Meditation - Focused Attention Meditation, and Meditation Series - Part 4 - Techniques For Practise Of Common Types Of Meditation - Mindfulness Meditation, we looked at mastering our mind and thoughts through meditation. Contemplative Meditation is quiet different. It is from the heart, and not the mind. |
