I was first introduced to the Heal Your Life® work when I received a little white book with a big colourful heart on the front for my 21st birthday. Written on one of the first pages was a birthday greeting with the old-fashoned writing of my (then) step-father's mother. Although I didn't know it at the time, this is where my spiritual wings were really beginning to stretch.
I believe that understanding the history of what has influenced us gives us a stronger connection and feeling of belonging to that connection. To be connected to our influences on such a deep level allows us to integrate them wholly in our lives and live authentically.
Everybody has a story of how they came to be who they are now. It has a beginning, a middle and a present moment. I do not believe in endings, just transformation. We are all beautiful butterflies, making our way into this world. My transformation really began to accelerate around the time the Heal Your Life® work was influencing my life. The Heal Your Life® work began when with a little girl named Louise L. Hay who simply wouldn't give up in being the best she could be.
Please note that all of the information about Louise L. Hay and her life contained in this blog post has been sourced from Louise. L. Hay's book 'You Can Heal Your Life'. Although summarised, the content is credited to the author Louise L. Hay.
Her self-esteem kept lowering and a pattern of 'few things go right for me' was expressed in the outside world. Through these experiences, she developed a 'confirmed belief' that she was worthless and did not deserve anything. This was her pattern and experiences in her life were now mirroring her belief. At age 15, she found a job as a waitress in a diner, as she could not take the sexual abuse any longer. She left home and school.
Louise had the 'lowest self-esteem' and was 'starved for love and affection'. Due to this she gave her body willingly to those who were kind to her. At age 16, she gave birth to a baby girl. She felt unable to keep her and found a 'childless couple who longed for a baby' and were able to give her a 'good, loving home'. This made Louise feel shame, guilt and loss towards motherhood.
She moved to Chicago and very slowly began to have positive experiences with men. Her self-esteem grew pattern of worthlessness began to change. Her views on men also began to change and better men started coming into her life. She started work as a fashion model, began a long-term career in the fashion industry and married a man who stayed with her for the next 14 years. During this time, her self-esteem remained low.
Months after her marriage split, she walked into the Church of Religious Science, in New York. She studied there and after 3 years was able to become a Licensed Practitioner of the church. She became a church counsellor and a year later, participated in the Ministerial Training Program.
She wrote a book, Heal Your Body, on the metaphysical causes of physical illness. She travelled to lecture and held classes on this subject. She was diagnosed with cancer and was not surprised that it was in the vaginal area, due to her childhood. She put her philosophy into practise with working on the mental patterning that was causing the cancer. If she didn't resolve the root reason, she believed that the cancer would keep coming back.
She worked on loving and approving of herself, clearing patterns of resentment, forgiving past experiences/people, letting go of anger, blame and having compassion for those who had impacted her life. Along with this she sought many alternative therapies such as reflexology, colonics, nutritionists and psychologists to support her healing. After 6 months, she no longer needed an operation. She was free of cancer!
Louise L. Hay says "Disease can be healed if we are willing to change the way we think and believe and act".
