Unlike Mindfulness Mediation that was covered in Meditation Series - Part 5 - Techniques For Common Types Of Meditation - Mindfulness Meditation, Focused Attention Meditation does not require you to delve deeply into actually comprehending the point of focus. You just need to concentrate on it, without distraction.
If you use the breath as the focus point, close your eyes and begin to concentrate on your breath as it moves in an out of your lungs. Your focal point may be your chest moving in and out. If your mind wonders to focusing on the feel of the breath on your lips or the sound that your are making as you breath, you need to bring your attention back to the focal point as soon as you are aware that it has strayed.
You may wish to read Meditation Series - Part 3 - Meditation Techniques, for assistance in meditation practise.
