They are a wonderful addition to prayer as they provide a focal point in which to pray as discussed in my previous blog Meditation Series - Part 7 - Techniques For Practise Of Common Types Of Meditation - Prayer.
- With the string of beads in hand, one says a prayer while holding a particular bead and then moves onto the next and so forth. Each bead represents a prayer to be made. Each bead may represent a different prayer, so that once the string of beads is complete a set of prayers has been made.
- Alternatively, the same prayer may be made upon each bead, with the string of beads a means of counting how many repetitions of the prayer have been completed. One may complete one circuit of the string of beads, or more.
- As one regularly works with their string of prayer beads, their hold the the energy of the intent and focus of what they are being meditated on. As this energetic value builds, they then work to provide the beneficial energy they have absorbed back to their owner, when carried with them or used for prayer. They have an energetic cumulative effect.
- They symbolise the prayers that are made upon them, thus acting as a constant reminder of the intent of the prayers.
